La revista TIME, en su página de Internet, organizó una lista de los 100 artículos personales que les parecieron los mejores y mas influyentes en la humanidad desde 1923 esto porque, según ellos, realizar una compilación de toda la historia sería más fácil pero generaría una lista mucho más larga, y eligieron ese año como punto de partida porque fue el primer año en el que se publicó esa revista.
En la reseña que la revista hace de los Zippo señalan la aparente poca tecnología con la que George Blaisdell logró concebir un encendedor a prueba de viento que luego de 77 años de producción sigue siendo sumamente comercial y parte de la cultura americana. También resaltan la calidad de los encendedores haciendo referencia a la garantía de funcionamiento que Zippo ofrece de por vida a los propietarios de los mismos.
Los Zippo comparten en esta lista con artículos tan variados como los Ipod, los Blackberry, la tela Velcro y las tarjetas de crédito. La forma en que fue hecha esta lista permite a los visitantes de la página votar por los productos de su preferencia y de esta manera se define el orden de la lista.
